This class is aimed for children 3 to 6 years old and is a great way to introduce young ones to the vast array of Indian dance styles.
Classes start with a warm up and move along to choreography with fun games mixed in. Classes aim to teach a specific dance sequence for the children to perform. Choreography is taught to introduce children to their left and right sides and how to perform steps with both arm and leg movements in tandem. Various games are played to help foster confidence in dancing on their own, with groups and with the choreography.
This class is aimed for children 7-12 years old who have not experienced Bollywood dance classes before.
Classes start with a warm up to teach the children how to stretch particular muscles. Choreography is taught at a higher level but with emphasis on learning the steps properly and within the timing of the music. Children are taught how to perform each style properly and are given different choreographies. Older children move at a faster pace and this class gives them the opportunity to grow and advance through their dance career.
With the proper foundation for rhythm and choreography technique, this class is aimed for students who are ready to learn more complicated sequences with formations.
Technique is emphasized in this class to ensure that students are able to properly perform the more intricate choreography. The students learn how to move with their steps to develop formations within their routines and are able to perfect their timing to ensure that the group is in sync with one another. Students learn how to work together in order to pull off a routine as a unit instead of as an individual.
This class is perfect for those first starting out in their Bharatanatyam journey. Students are taught the history of the dance style along with the basic stances and steps.
Namaskar, or prayer, is taught to the children to emphasize proper technique in all steps and to start out class. Basic conditioning exercises are taught to ensure proper stretching (and prevent injuries). Students will focus on learning the basic steps, or adavus, and hasta mudras, hand gestures.
Students will move forward to the intermediate level of Bharatanatyam anywhere from 1-3 years with the discretion of their teacher. This class will build upon the foundation of beginner Bharatanatyam with harder adavus to learn and the double mudra hand gestures to memorize and execute properly.
The students start learning more complicated choreography with their adavus put to classical music. Also, students learn how to move with the steps they have learned in more complicated formations working as a group and learning about synchronization and team work. Abhinaya, facial expressions, is introduced so students learn to tell a story to the audience using facial expressions and the mudras.
This class is designated for students with 4+ years of Bharatanatyam training who want to pursue their Arangetram. This is the occasion in which the Guru decides if the student is ready for their public solo appearance and can showcase their talent in a grand event.
The focus is on memorizing and learning all adavus with proper technique and conditioning. All of the mudras are continually tested to ensure that the student memorizes them and can use them appropriately within abhinya. Fast paced class with harder choreography is taught and pieces the student will use in their Arangetram are taught and reviewed. Stamina and strength are key focuses to ensure that the student can properly complete their Arangetram.
